There is a little bit of controversy following the reported amount that Kate Middleton has spent on a new baby stroller for her soon to be firstborn. Reports say that the Duchess of Cambridge has bought one of the best -known brands of stroller, indispensable for today’s yummy mummy’s lifestyle. A Bugaboo. She has also bought a wicker moses basket at a high-end London baby shop, for a total of $1800.
I was the opposite of yummy mummy, spending as litle as I could on my son’s first pram. I bought it on an Ebay shop and I paid less than 150E for it. I completely refused to pay amounts like 500E or 700E for a pram. Even if it came with three parts. Even if it claimed to clean the baby’s nappy. (well, in that case I really would have thought twice…)
The Ebay pram was OK. We used it for over a year. It was very ample and comfy. But it was also massive and impossible to fold and fit in the car, and the wheels would not turn, so I had to drag the pram to take corners. After that we bought a smaller stroller, because we needed something easy to fold to bring on a plane.
Was it worth it? I dont think so. If I have another baby I will probably agree to spend more. Now, I would probably score all the second hand shops to find something more modern. But still. I would try to pay less than what the average of what parents reportedly pay for a stroller.
And you? Did you spend much? Was it worth it?
